The Recruitment Phase

In the Greek system, there are generally 2 formal recruitment periods (however, some organizations hold 3). Usually they take place after Frosh Week (September) and Frost Week (January). Every organization will hold a week or two of events aimed at getting a prospective pledge interested. These are called Rush Events, named for the idea that many organizations will 'rush' out to get prospective pledges. The events include social mixers with a sorority, brotherhood nights, sports events, and in our case, a charity event.

Throughout Rush week, as you come to our events and get to know us, we are doing likewise, getting to know you. At the end of the week(s), you may be handed an invitation to an interview. It's a casual event in which you meet with our entire Chapter. We simply ask that you come with any questions you might have and value any feedback that you might give. Provided all goes well you might be extended a bid to pledge Acacia.

Once extended a bid, you enter into the pledge phase of your fraternity life. We provide you with the necessary materials to work to become a Brother. You're given a pledge manual, a local manual, and a pledge pin. During your pledge period, we ask that you read through the material in order to gain a better understanding as to what Greek life is all about. You will be tasked with a pledge test each week, and upon completion of the tests, you can become a candidate for initiation into the Brotherhood that has spawned some of North America's most successful men!

Unlike many of the Greek organizations, we do not haze. Some organizations will make you do physical tasks, others will berate you mentally, however, we the Men from Acacia know that this is a clear violation of trust.

Why Should I Join?

Many fraternities pride themselves on being the best at athletics, highest in scholarship, full social calendar, or successful careers. In Acacia, we pride ourselves on having all of these. While other organizations boast numbers, we boast quality. Our alumni have gone on to become some of North America's greatest entrepreneurs, politicians, scientists, doctors, and standup men.

At the Carleton Chapter of Acacia Fraternity, we take pride in our own community and our own lives. We are forever indebted to our successful alumni who provide us with support. It is in their footsteps we follow and in doing so we prepare ourselves to become some of Canada's future leaders. Within our own Chapter, alumni have gone on to become; Corporate chairmen, politicians, entrepreneurs, doctors, and world-renowned scientists. They constantly mentor us, helping us start our own companies or join their own. 20 years down the road, they still take time out of busy personal schedules to help strengthen the tie that binds us all and do their honest share of effort in charity work.

Acacia is not the best fraternity, but we maintain that there is none better!
